The Orsett Show Saturday 1st September 2018 The Orsett Show 2018, 25 cars and 1 single decker bus supplied by our members for this event. Big Thanks to the organisers for asking us to attend for another year. The sun was at it's best for us.The show itself was very good this year. More stall than 2017. All the arenas had something going on all day long. Displays included model aircraft, model boats, cows, sheep, farm machinery, tractors and Titan the Robot.
Heavy Horse Show Sunday 5th August 2018 Sunshine, wall to wall sunshine for this event. A very good turnout of classic vehicles. A lot of interest shown by public re the club today. As usual every horse looked spectacular. Trade Horse & Cart Stagecoches  and plenty of activity in the arena and a few stalls to browse. There was'nt the usual public numbers this year, but well done to the organisers.
Table and chairs out for lunch.
Thanks to the organisers of this event.

Coalhouse Fort Sunday 28th July 2018

After 2 months of glorious sunshine, the heat wave finally broke, with a couple of thunder storms on the Friday and Saturday, resulting in a cloudy and wet Coalhouse Fort Open Day on the Sunday.
Many who had booked looked at the rain in the morning and decided to go back to bed.
Even so, we still had 6 club members attend out of the 30 or so cars that showed up.
By about midday, and with a low public attendance, some of the exhibitors started to drift away.
We managed to hold out until about 3 o'clock, when there was only a handful of us left before we gave up.

Corringham Classic Car Show Sunday 22nd July 2018

The Corringham Classic Car and Family Fun Day was organized and arranged again this year by Del. Kelly Bye & our own Gary Mitchell and hosted at the Pegasus Country Club, Herd Lane, Corringham for the second year, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
It was a beautiful day, and not as hot as recently, but with a welcoming nice cool breeze blowing right across the event showground.
There was a display of almost 150 vehicles of all makes, types and ages, with a good turnout from our club that made up 18 of them, and well over 30 craft and trade stalls, as well a mini funfair and inflatable fun things for the children to play on.
Entertainment was provided all day, with own London to Southend DJ Peter May acting as MC and a brilliant band ‘Beats Working’, playing all the tunes from yesteryear, together with a majorette / dancing troop performing for us.
Wesley Lester and his son Brandon, by special request from the organizers, turned up as the Crash Test Dummies again, happy to support a cause that is very close to Wesley’s heart, as a cancer survivor, to pose for pictures with members of the general public.

Margaretting Fun Day Saturday 14th July 2018 A real fun day. The sun shone for us all day. Around 30 classic cars on site included, Hillman Avenger, Morris Marina, split screen Morris Minors, Lancia and many more. Local school children dancing around the Maypole. The Spitfire flypast was exciting both to see & hear. Beer tent & BBQ kept visitors fed & watered. A sheep dog rounding up ducks and guiding them through obstacles was very entertaining.
25th London to Southend Sunday 1st July 2018
Our 25th annual London to Southend Classic Vehicle Run was a show stopper. The sun had shone for us all day long.
Leaving at nine o’clock in the morning, from Fairlop Waters in Hainault, under the direction of the starting flag of the Mayor of Redbridge, the first vehicle to leave was Buttercup the club Morris Minor Van. Other classic vehicles set off on a leisurely 50 mile run through the sleepy towns and villages of Essex, concluding at Southend-On-Sea’s wonderful City Beach area.
Assembling along the seafront, near the dancing fountains, together with more classic vehicles, provided a magnificent static display of vehicles from the 1930s right through to the 1980.
Every entrant was presented with a Participant Rally Plate in Silver to celebrate this 25 year run, a ‘goodie bag’ and a Commemorative Silver Plaque to celebrate the event.
Entertainment on the city Beach, was provided from 10am right through to 4.30pm by our DJ & master of ceremonies Peter May, from ‘Flippin Mental’. We also had 4 Storm Troopers (Star Wars) members of UK Garrison.
Well done to all who took part to make this a very special event.
Steam & Cider Fair Saturday 30th June 2018 A very good day. A nice show of members cars. The weather was really kind to us with wall to wall sunshine.Plenty to see and do at this event. Steam vehicles large & small. Country & western singers on stage. As usual the club stand had a lot of attention. Well done to the organisers and all those who attended.
Fathers Day Motorfest Barleylands Sunday 17th June A fathers dream. So many cars, vans, trucks & bikes to admire. A cool day for Fathers Day Motorfest held at Barleylands. Hundreds of vehicle on display with a very long queue waiting to get in but the wait was worth it. The event went well and we had a good turnout by club members.
Vintage & Nostalgia Wiltshire 1st-3rd June 2018 A pleasant 2 1/2 hour run around the M25, down the M3 and along the A303, past Stonehenge and you arrive at a hidden gem in the heart of the Wylye valley, The Vintage Nostalgia Festival.
This is one of the most popular vintage festivals in the south, with nearly 8,000 people descended on Stockton Park for a weekend of all things vintage, featuring a display of around 250 classic cars, a line-up of retro music, and dancing in the three music tents and lots, lots more.
The event focuses on the past and celebrates all that was great from before the turn of the century up to the 1980's. So whatever your interest, Vintage/Classic Cars, Veteran Cycles, Vintage Fashion, antiques, rusty automobila, dance and music.
The festival is run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts
.
The Enfield Pageant Sunday 27th May 2018 A few members went to The Enfield Pageant. This is a great three day show although we only went on the Sunday. As usual there was a large auto jumble so plenty to spend your hard earned cash on. A good selection of cars, vans & lorries to see. The motor bike stunt show was well worth watching. Also a nice selection of motorcycles to admire.
Dogs Trust Fun Day Sunday 13th May 2018 A very nice sunny day with a light breeze for our canine friends. As usual this event had a good turnout of the public with their variety of breeds. A good selection of classic vehicles attended. Plenty of stalls to look at and lots going in and around the arena. A good turnout of club cars.
Billericay Soapbox Derby 7th May 2018 Again this year we had our own soapbox entered in this event. Our team of designers, constructors & pitstop crew all did a magnificent job. A nice sunny day with a good turn out of members cars.
Some really whacky soapbox designs which made for some good fun runs with really very fast times. Our very own Prince Harry & Meghan (Craig &
blow up doll) came 17th.
Well done to everyone taking part in this event.

Drive It Day 22nd April 2018 North Weald Aerodrome

The 22nd of April turned out to be a beautiful, warm, sunny day for the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs annual National Drive It Day classic car run.
This year, we were invited to join the South Eastern Classic Car Appreciation Society (SECCAS), based in the Canterbury area of Kent, on a run up to North Weald Airdrome, Epping . Almost 40 SEVCVC members, SECCAS members attend this event.
Upon arrival we were welcomed at the gate and guided around the perimeter road to our display area adjacent to the runway, close to the NAAFI & Mess bar.
Tea and coffee were available on arrival and a carvery lunch could be purchased at a very modest cost.
We were treated to a tour of the hangers, complete with a couple of vintage planes and a tour of the site museum.
North Weald has an illustrious history as a military airfield with a history that spans two world wars and beyond. Read the full story in your next edition of “The Bearings”

Bus Driving Day 25th March 2018 After a hearty breakfast at The Toby Carvery Runwell wheaded towards Bradwell to have a run around the old disused runway of RAF Bradwell Bay (used during WWII from 1942 - 1946) in vintage & classic buses and fire engines. Members enjoyed the choice of driving double decker open top bus, single decker buses or a Fire engine. A trip around the local area in the open top bus was all part of the day.
Auction Night 7th March 2018 Our Annual Auction Night organised & run by the two Peters was another great success again this year and well attended. Donations had been collected & sorted over the year. Items up for auction included a Microwave, DVD’s, Books, Golf & Bowling equipment & a vast amount of Classic Car magazines dating from 1954. All money raised will go into club funds. Thanks to all who attended & not forgetting Peter White senior & junior for all the hard work they did to make for a great night.
Blow Away The Cobwebs 14th January 2018
This year we boarded a No. 223 bus to take us to The Eagle Pub in Ongar. Our bus was a 1952 AEC RF owned and driven by member Toby. About 40 of us sat down to enjoy a very good meal served by Bev and her staff. A great day, great company. Thanks to all who attended.
Thanks to all who attended, Toby our driver and of course staff at The Eagle.
Billericay Christmas Market Sunday 3rd December A cold December morning but we met at the Downham Arms car park and then travelled in convoy to Billericay High Street where we parked for the rest of the day. The whole of the High Street was closed to traffic from Sun Corner to Western Avenue. Plenty of stalls selling their wares. Santa parade, Jugglers, Morris dancing, Rock Choir, Hot Chestnuts & Hog Roasts. The public showed great interest in our club & cars.
Thanks to the organisers of this event and also thank you to our the members that turned out for the day.
Canvey Show Sunday 8th October 2017 The Canvey Transport Museum 2017,
This year 21 club cars along with the other great classic, vintage cars and scooters and a whole range of classic vehicles. There are free buses to take you to the sea front where the buses are on display. The weather was chilly to start then the sun came out for most of the day. The show was well attended with single marque clubs as well as multi make clubs such as ours. A lot of interest in our club was shown during this event.
Wickford Kite Festival Sunday 17th September 2017 We were again invited back for the 5th year to the Wickford Kite Festival held at the Wick Country Park, Wickford, Essex. A good turnout of club cars. Arrived on site at 10.30am. Dark clouds loomed above us with only a very slight breeze, not good kite flying weather. It was not long before the wind picked up enough enough to get kites airbourne and the sun began to shine on us.
A lot of fantastic looking kites. Thanks to all that turned up for this event and many thanks to the Friends of the Wick Country Park  www.friendsofthewickcountrypark.co.uk
